Powermat’s 2011 Roadmap At CES Shows Wireless Charging Case For The Nokia N8

During the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vagas earlier this month, hundreds of accessory makers attended to showcase their products for 2011. Amongst the many were Powermat, who provide mats and receivers that allow you to wirelessly charge you device. Hit the jump to find out whats in store for Nokia N8 users.

Powermat has been around for quite some time now, with most of its attention focused on Apple’s iPhone and iPod Touch. It does however provide solutions for Nokia and other manufacturers, but I found these to be quite pointless, as they still require you to plug a cable into your device.

I personally have a Powermat case for my iPod Touch and apart from the wireless charging it offers, the case itself is something worth a mention. Its robustness beats any case I’ve used, plus it offers a Micro USB port to sync and charge the device, getting rid of the need for the annoying proprietary cable.

Powermat were also looking into a more concealed solution with the release of Powerpack batteries. These batteries would simply replace the manufacturer supplied ones and allow you to utilize the wireless charging functionality without the added bulk from a case. However as handset manufacturers steer towards the built-in, non-removable batteries, this venture may become surplus to requirements.

The Powermat Case for the Nokia N8 looks very sleek from the image above. The skin seems to hug the device in the right places allowing the handset to retain its thin form factor. As the Nokia N8 is available in a handful of different colours, it would be nice to see the case become available in all five colours too, although I can’t see Powermat taking up this same ideology.

With an estimated retail price of $39.99 USD, the Powermat case for the Nokia N8 is due to be released in the second quarter of 2011. This is one accessory you might want to keep an eye out for.
